Intermittent Fasting is a type of diet used for weight loss where you have periods of fasting where no food is eaten cycled with periods of eating normal. When fasting only water, tea, or coffee can be consumed. Some people fast for multiple days, while some only a few hours to 1 day. Research shows that intermittent fast is a great way to help with weight loss among other health benefits. I believe the simplest way to incorporate intermittent fasting into your diet is with a 16/8 schedule. With this this schedule you are allowed to eat for only 8 hours during the day and you must fast for 16 hours. 16 hours may sound like a long time, but half of that time is spent sleeping. When I fast my first meal is around 11 or 12 o'clock while my last meal will be around 7pm. Essentially, I'm just skipping breakfast. For me this is quite sustainable, and sustainability is key when trying to form new healthy habits.
Many people talk about fasting but no one really talks about what they eat while fasting. I created the below meal plan for my mother and she was able to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks with minimal exercise. This meal plan is lower in carb than the typically Nigerian diet combined with the fasting. The only exercise she did was walking 5,000 steps or more a day. So if you need help with a Nigerian meal plan for weight loss check out my plan below.
Feel free to screenshot and use the below meal plan. When creating a meal plan to lose weight, the simplest thing to do is to eat the same thing every day, however this can get boring. I created 4 different weekly menus, however you can choose to just do 1 or 2 for the entire month if you like. Also check my other blog post HERE on apple cider vinegar and how it helps weight loss, to learn why I add it to my water in the morning, while fasting. If you give the diet a try let me know how it goes.
